Speedrunning is a niche but popular way to play video games. In it, players called speedrunners take advantage of every strategy they can to complete games as fast as possible. Sometimes, this involves breaking the game in highly convoluted ways.
This talk will go over a specific glitch used in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" that runners perform to complete a game meant to take 30+ hours in 4 minutes.
Rebecca is a Senior Software Engineer at Black Duck, working in their C++ Compilers team. She has some first-hand experience with speedrunning, having once held a record for "Crypt of the Necrodancer." She is also a CUUG Director and Past President.

Andrew Ginter has been a CUUG member, on and off (mostly on) for decades. His career spanned product development for telecomms, industrial control systems, and for the last two decades, industrial cybersecurity. He is writing his fourth book on that topic, with a working title of OT Security: Reasonable Responses to Credible Threats - Cyber-Informed Engineering for a safety-critical cloud.
In his presentation, Andrew will cover:
Andrew has presented to CUUG a few times on industrial cybersecurity. While he is stuck using Windows laptops lately, Andrew spent decades working on Intel 286 Xenix, Z8000 UNIX, Solaris, HP-UX, Tru64, AIX and of course Linux. He spent 7 years deep into Tcl and home-grown web servers as well - none of this modern Python and Apache nonsense. He lives in Calgary, makes ice with the Rosemont Ice Guys and toboggans when his grand kids indulge him.
